[Want To Buy] Magnetic Blocking Laptop Case

Have a customer that is a truck driver and hauls heavy pieces of hardware with huge magnets on it. Well he took his laptop with him and wiped out his hard drive. Wants to know if there is a laptop case that will protect it when he is hauling. Anyone ever see anything like this? Let me know. Thanks.

i call bullshit on this.... your truck driver has other problems then magnets taking the info off his drive. Below is a company who's life is magnets and they give their two cents.

You want mu-metal shielding, not lead. You can buy some mu-metal sheeting and maybe fit it to a custom, shock-proof case.

Is your truck driver using the laptop while driving? If so, it's more likely the vibrations and shocks that are destroying the data by killing the drive. I have a long haul trucker who's a regular customer for hard drive replacements. I have recommended a shock resistant arm to hold the laptop or a toughbook. He'll listen eventually. ;-)

He said he had the laptop by this equipment with the big magnets and wiped his drive. I put the drive on my system to see if I can anything off of it and it shows up as a 109 gb hard drive even though it is a 60 gb. Who knows he was just wondering. Thanks anyway.

You should let victoria have a look at that one... I've been thinking about making a victoria cd, but it's all in russian, but it could be done, and it is free to all technicians. Maybe mhdd (also russian). There's an area below the master boot record and host protected area. This area has information stored on it by the manufacturer.

If you are using a uhmmm, seagate drive you can read the tmos with a small circuit you can build. But why go through all that trouble when mhdd or victoria will do amazing below low level work.
