If you go to start >> control panel >> users you might be able to change the admin password if the user your logged on with has proper authority to change it. If not, you will need to get your hands on a utility that will reset the password for you.

There are also linux based boot discs out that will actually brute force the old password for you.

Try booting with the UBCD4W it has a Password tool that will allow you to Nullify the Admin Password and allow you to gain access and reset you a different Password.

ophcrack is sweet, but why bother hacking the password when you can just reset it?!?
Like the poster above recommended, use Sala's Password renew on the UBCD 4 Windows! |

I thought perhaps the OP wanted to find out what the password was
If resetting it isn't a problem, then you're right UBCD is the way to go.

Im downloading the ophcrack but wondering what your talking about when you mentioned the sala password renew , where do i find it or how can i get it
Im trying to unlock my computer and not sure which is going to work the best for me im running windows vista (which im beginning to hate )i was checking email one day and it locked up to where i had to reboot when it came back up it wanted a pass word im the only user on this computer and never set a pass word on it so i was very puzzeled when it wanted a password ive tried everything i can think of using the hint and nothing , Is it possible that a virus got thru my protection and and caused this ? also once i download this on this computer will i be able to copy it to a disk and then install it on my dead computer ? |

I had a customer with a similar virus a few weeks back. I used UBCD to clear the password on all accounts, but when I logged into windows again, all of the accounts had passwords back on them! Use ophcrack to find out what the passwords are, then login and run some decent antivirus/antispyware. I found it easier to simply format the computer though.
