Unlike Windows Vista, Windows 7 is no longer "One Disc To Rule Them All". The ei.cfg Removal Utility is a utility which disables the ei.cfg from Windows 7 ISO file, thus turning the ISO image to an universal disk containing all Windows 7 editions. ei.cfg Removal Utility can also reverse the procedure restoring the ISO file to its original state. The tool requires no installation since it is a portable app. The way it works is simple. No UI to play with. Just select the patch to the ISO file and that’s it

Direct links not always so welcome due to so many virus and spyware related incidents, also there is another app to deal with 32/64 bit versions that may be useful to some... link is here: http://code.kliu.org/misc/win7utils/
No intent to be insulting and thank you, the other app seems interesting, for the ei.cfg I had already deleted mine long ago since it was easy but this does state it is faster and I thank you for the link. ![]() Info on each: ei.cfg Removal Utility Version 1.1 <http://code.kliu.org/misc/win7utils/> When used on an original Windows 7 ISO image, this utility will disable the ei.cfg file, thus converting a disc image into a "universal" disc image. When used on a Windows 7 ISO image that has already been patched by this utility, this utility will undo the ei.cfg removal and restore the disc image to its original state. ------------------- Windows 7 ISO Image Edition Switcher Version 1.0 <http://code.kliu.org/misc/win7utils/> Introduction ============ Unlike Windows Vista, Windows 7 is no longer "One Disc To Rule Them All", which presents challenges to people who are downloading multiple editions from their MSDN or TechNet subscriptions, and for people who want to backup and archive their ISOs, because instead of just two disc images--one each for 32-bit and 64-bit--there are now eight different images. This creates an unnecessary strain on bandwidth when downloading, wastes space when archiving, and wastes time in general. Fortunately, the images are all extremely similar, differing only in a handful of bytes, so it is possible to create a binary patch that converts an image of one type into an image of another type, and that is what this package does. |

How does this work with upgrade vs full retail editions?

Lowmemory does nothing at all for the Windows version, whether you use it or not will affect nothing.
However, running out of memory is.... interesting. Can you post the entire, unaltered error message? |
