Got GIVEN a laptop by a client, works perfectly, even the battery is good:

Dell
12 inch screen
P3 500
256mb ram
6gig harddrive
10/100 lan
56k modem

Very small and light, runs XP nicely. Great for travelling. Not too bad for something I was given

Wow, I can't believe how many Intels there are. I guess I have no room to talk. Mine is an Intel but as soon as the funds become available I will build an AMD machine.

Here is my desktop:

Dell Dimension 3000
Intel Celeron 2.4Ghz(I can't stand Celerons)
512 Mb RAM(need more, much more)
Onboard Video
40Gig Hdd
35Gig Hdd(out of junk pc I obtained)
Win XP Home
2 48x DVD+-R drives(got to have two of these in all my pcs)

I bought it from a friend for $400US a long time ago.

Here is my Laptop:

Dell Inspiron 2650
Intel Pentium 4 1.6 Ghz
384 Mb RAM(need more, much, much more)
Onboard Video
20 GB HDD
Win XP Pro
1 DVD CDRW Combo Drive
D-Link Airplus Wireless PC Card

I bought this one from the same friend for $150US

I know I probably have the saddest computers on th fourm but hopefully that will change soon.

Nice, are you going to use it mainly on batteries or on AC?

I am lookin at trashin my old desktop which I think I posted the specs of and upgrade my laptop

Current Laptop Specs
P4 Mobile 2.8 GHz
512 MB DDR
60GB 4200RPM HDD
15.4" WXGA w/ XBrite
DVD+/-RW(Forgotten speeds)
802.11g Built-in Wi-Fi
10/100 Ethernet Lan
64MB ATI Radeon IGP 345M

The upgrades I want to make
1. Change out both 256MB DDR chips for 2 x 512MB
2. Replace HDD with 120GB or higher 5400RPM
3. I have heard of changing the amount of RAM the video card uses if it uses shared RAM if so Id consider upping mine with the memory upgrade to 128MB so if you know about this let me in on the info

I want to basicly replace my desktop as it is old and dying I will later get a new desktop but Id like to upgrade the laptop to take over for a time the upgrades price out at around $300 which is low enough for me

I would also like to hear thoughts on Western Digital vs Seagate vs Hitachi

Probably a lot of both. I use will probably use it a lot in the field but also plenty at home to do paperwork and the like.
