Anyone have any trusted recommendations for places online that buy back empty toner or ink tanks? Looking for a reputable vendor who I can work with professionally and that offers good pricing on buybacks.
Let me know who you've worked with and how happy you are with them. I'm looking for a vendor that makes this as seamless as possible. I'd like to ideally just pack the units, tell them what I'm shipping, and send them off in exchange for a check. I've never worked with any of these so fill me in on anything I should be wary of. Thanks everyone!

I dealt with one company several years ago and never saw the first payment from them, can't remember the name though. I would love to know of a legit company, I could send them tons of cartridges.

Generally, your best bet for ink and toner buybacks are the suppliers themselves. I use Planet Green as a supplier and they also have a buyback program that I use for ink cartridges. I'm not sure if their buyback program is open to non-resellers though.
Most buyback programs only want Virgin empties. That is original cartridges that have never been refilled. The failure rate goes up quickly when they try to refill a refilled tank. Buyback prices will fluctuate based on demand. Most cartridges are between 50 cents and 2 dollars. Tanks (i.e. HP 02 series) are usually 10 cents. Looking at the most recent buyback list for one of the companies I deal with, HP 22 is $4 for a virgin empty and 25 cents for a reman empty. The highest buyback price for ink I see is for Lexmark 35 at $6 each for virgin cores. Another thing to be aware of is that most companies will test the cartridges and pay out based on the number that pass. Generally, I see between 3% and 5% fail. I am still looking for a good place to sell empty toners. InkCycle will take them back, but their payback is low. However, we tries sending some to another company and they claimed that 3/4 of the toners we sent were bad and we get very little for it. |

Well in the us you can get like 2 dollars over at staple and office depot, its store credit only but if you need supplies why not use them.

Hmmm, I wonder if they take empty remanufactured cartridges....that would be a good way to get money out of them. |

I used to just go through Office Max but the terms and conditions surrounding their buybacks were just getting crazy. I was maxxed on how many I could bring per month, the credits would expire in xx months.... I just want to use a company who will take my tanks, pay a fair rate depending on if they are in good condition, etc, and then send me a check.
Is that really too much to ask for? Everyone seems to be advertising it, I just don't know who to go with. I'm surprised more of you don't utilize such companies seeing how many offer this. There's got to be a few reputables out there in the sea of buyback outfits.

As sort of a side business, we do ink cartridge remanufacturing. We might be interested in buying HP virgin ink cartridges. PM me if you are interested in selling your empty cartridges and we can talk about exactly which cartridges I am looking for and pricing.

http://www.thinkrecycle.com/ I'm pretty sure they are in the US as well (I'm in Canada) but they donate money to charities to plant trees as well as pay you. They have a list of things they take as well as the dollar value of each item. Edit : I went this route because it more than doubled the amount of equipment I received from people, so it turned a profit on it's own. Everyone want to give to charity right?
