Are you in the US? Also, what was the replacement screen that they sent and did not match? I looked up that screen and the screen maker is a very small player in the screen industry.

have you tried screentekinc or humptydumptyservice? Email them, maybe their tech dept can help you find an exact fit.

Since this got bumped anyway, PCX, what did you do? We had a u46e and we just parted it out, minus the screen.

Just FYI, I sent it to Asus and they replaced the LCD and a broken bezel and hinge assembly for $200. I didn't make anything off it but the customer was happy.

Are people still not able to find this panel?

The customer was in the process of moving and after we could not find a proper alternative within a certain period of time, they decided to not go forward with repairs. They had the option to send it in to Asus, but they did not want to wait. Not sure what ended up happening after I gave it back to them.

Ugh, this thing is a bastard..

Got a broken hw14wx101 from a u46e in the shop..

Nobody has had any luck outside of ASUS?? You can't even order the screen from asus and install it yourself??

Kind of a bummer, I like asus laptops, but this isn't the first impossible to find screen I've run into with them.

There must be a way to get around situations like this. When you think about it, you are really only dealing with a few variables:

1) Height, Width and Diagonal width
2) screen resolution
3) backlight type
4) connector location (maybe type as well)
5) physical mounts

I know that sounds like a lot but other than the mounts there are only so many choices for a typical laptop.

What we need is to somehow come up with a cross reference table using the above and perhaps a couple other variables and then find easily available screens to buy what we need.

Right now I do that with laptop AC adapters using the Targus Database and common tip types for certain laptops. So its got to be something that can be done without too much work.

Maybe we can create some kind of thread on this (technicians eyes only) if enough people are interested and we can find a way to do it.

I think for this screen the sides of the LCD are actually part of the frame/hinge assembly, and that's one reason its so hard to find/so specific. They are pretty strong metal compared to most other paper thin 14" LEDs that we get. The tops of the hinges are glued to the backplate, and there is no side rail to the hinge that runs up the screen. I think if I rigged a regular 14" thin LED that the hinges would eventually pop out and possibly crack the screen.
