Four Monitors One PC

Hello,

I have four monitors (DVI, HDMI and VGA connections on all four)

I have one Dell Desktop - with two HDMI ports - it has no VGA port and no DVI port.

I am after suggestions to have the display extended to four desktops.

What hardware would you consider is best I know I need to buy something extra - but do I go for another HDMI card or do I use a matrix style desktop extender - or any other suggestions.

Basically any video card with 2 x DVI will do, but the best will be to not mix manufacturers drivers, what is the manufacturer and model of the actual GPU ?

I have a Matrox TripleHead2Go Digital Edition (allows 3 monitors on one DVI-D connection) and I absolutely love it. The catch is that I probably wouldn't buy it again today because it is no longer cost effective in vary many scenarios... but it was the only solution that met my needs 5-6 years ago.

If I was setting this up today, my approach would vary depending on my needs.

Is gaming of concern to you? IMO, the best route would be to get a high-end AMD video card that supports "Eyefinity". Granted, the TripleHead2Go is only $300 US (+/-), but you also need a video card powerful enough to drive a game over that many screens which quickly diminishes the cost effectiveness of the device. Even if it is less expensive overall, you'll have yet another point of failure and can of driver-issue worms to contend with going the Matrox route.

If gaming isn't a concern, then do as bensthelens suggests: buy another inexpensive video card from the same chipset manufacturer (AMD or Nvidia) and you're only out $50 or so.

Buy a Sapphire Flex 6770. It's low power, relatively cheap and will drive 4 monitors. It comes with any adapters you'll need too and it's not bad for gaming should you feel the need
