I'm gonna guess for name recognition. Think back to before the HP merge, Compaq was known as the defacto ultimate "ibm clone" So possibly meant to draw the 50 plus crowd like myself that still remembers Compaq's glory days.

Not that I've ever been much for Compaq. Dealing with their weirdo super secret setup routines and torx screws and whatnot.

I agree with the others: Make sure there is a slot for video card and then cut a slot for it. First time I have seen a case back like that.
