Question Learning to fix Apple products - idea on getting broken items to fix

I see a lot of people contemplating fixing apple and android products and some people say to buy broken ones, fix them and resell them. I'm wondering what you people think about offering a service that fixes them for free (no labor) and only charge for parts until you are comfortable with fixing the products.

I just had an offer like this for a Ipod 8gb (don't know what model or what it looks like) but don't want to deal with the consequences should I break it and not be able to get it back together. I guess that is part of the process though, huh?

What do others think about this type of a setup? Is it too risky or not?

We tried that, didn't like the hardware repairs. We didn't charge for labor at all, I ended up paying $500 for crappy parts and didn't get any to work.

We ended up focusing on the software portion of the iPhones and Androids, we help our customers synch them with their Outlook. Much better for us, we can utilize remote support and easy software set up.

Win.

That sounds like a good plan to me. I tried working on my Ipod classic to check the battery and had a heck of a time getting it apart and back together. IDK if I really want to put myself back into the position of having to deal with such small components. I hate laptops enough but deal with them when I have to.

May I ask how or what you advertise on working with Apple products? Do you have any of it on any signage? I would like to have something "Apple" related in my advertisement (to bring in "that" crowd) but don't know how to go about doing it.

We don't really advertise it as Apple products, but more smartphone assistance.

It's on our main webpage and we have a page for it here.

We promote it via social media, blogs and newsletter. Our business clients love it!

The problem with doing those types of repairs is dealing with the headaches of warranties. When those cheap Chinese knockoff parts break you are gonna get a call. Its really not worth it unless you can buy in bulk and do mass repairs.
