Lets say I want to confirm whether a motherboard is bad by sticking a new hard drive in, but I don't want to take the time to reinstall Windows with all of the hardware drivers. Can I take a hard drive from another computer and just insert the hardware drivers into the respective folders, or are there registry entries that would not correspond?

Have a look at http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/how...tbosdt-dos.htm.
This allows you to change the storage drivers and even the HAL when installing a drive with Windows on it to a different system. |

Short answer is generally no; you could complete an install and use something like Acronis with Universal Restore to perform the same intention
