Default Google Apps / Microsoft 365 Alternative ?

Hi All.
I have a dilemma which possibly has been covered on here so apologies in advance if it has.
As my business grows (slowly), i am finding it necessary to streamline my time & paperwork, so for the past few weeks i have been playing with google apps.
I also use the Technibble Computer Business Kit, as the templates are perfect.
My plan was in theory simple.
Edit the templates to my needs and upload the templates to Google Docs, and when i out a customers business/house, open up the docs, edit whichever template i need which all the required details, save it,email a copy to the client and when i'm home it has already synced to my sync folder on my pc, so just add it to my customer files etc.
sounds simple and easy. I WISH!!
i have uploaded several templates to google docs, and if you need to edit them online they need to be converted to google docs format, and for me this is when it all goes T*Ts UP.
if it is a microsoft doc, when it converts to google docs, the whole file is basically corrupted to a point where it is unusable. it kind of converts it to a excel type worksheet, which although i can edit, it is just incredibly hard and fiddly to edit. ive put several questions on the google forum and had no reply.
basically if i want to use the technibble templates on google i have create one from scratch which i can do, but it kind of defeats the object.
Does anyone else use google apps/docs, if so have you encountered this problem.
If not what else is there out there where you can edit files on the go.
i've tried 365 and am not keen on it, so am looking for something else.

Thanks All

Maybe this is a workaround...

...use something like Dropbox to store your docs then you can edit them from anywhere there is Internet access & have the edited (or re-saved) files available from your home PC, laptop, iOS device, etc.

Kajillions of drive storage packages out there...but I guess I use our Jungledisk "J" drive the most.

I agree with Tech in SC. If your doing everything from an android phone/tablet then you can use dropbox for android and thinkfree office. Might be a bit of a pain using just a touch screen but if thats what you were doing anyways with google docs then it would be similar. Thinkfree office came on my old phone for free and it worked pretty good.

You could also look at Microsoft's Skydrive. It was recently changed, and now works very similar to google docs, but keeps everything in MS Office format. You get 7GB free unless you had a skydrive account before the change, then it's 25gb. It has desktop sync, file share, android and iOS apps. Just something for you to look into.
