I had VB 4.1 installed and I wanted to upgrade to 4.2. When I tried to install it with 4.1 installed it wouldn't update so I uninstalled the whole program. I rebooted (twice) and tried to install 4.1.22 and it prompted if I wanted to allow "XXXXX" file to run, I selected yes and then nothing. I did this a number of times and the same result each time. I thought I may have a bad download so I went to the site and found 4.2 and I downloaded that only to have the same thing happen again and again.
Can anyone suggest a possible issue that could cause this? I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate with all updates. On a side note, I somehow got a toolbar "babylon??" something installed and it really seemed like spy/malware. I uninstalled it through control panel and it wouldn't allow it to finish so that is when I rebooted the first time. When it started back up it was gone except for one component which then uninstalled successfully but the toolbar was still on Firefox.. I did manage to get it off by unselecting it. Anyone have any ideas? |

In regards to the Babylon toolbar, I picked that up while trying to install some software a couple weeks back. I had to ran Malwarebytes which finally removed it but it was a pain.

Try cleaning your temp folder, I had a problem today trying to install Office failing after 3 attempts. Cleared the temp folder fixed it.

The temp folder in the c: drive? I just did that and I'll try again.
Yeah, I found some spyware removal tips for Babylon and just went through them. IDK if that will help though. |

I just run D7 or Ccleaner and clear the lot. It's a good start.

Looks like it is a common problem...
https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=50278 Seems some of them found a fix by turning foo Dropbox, but i'm not running that. |

I sometimes have that or a similar problem, because I use a file search program that constantly updates its index. Used to use a file explorer that did the same (PowerDesk) but solved that by switching to FreeCommander. If I kill that search program, it resolves the issue. Your online or constant/instantaneous backup program of choice may also be involved. I know SugarSync and another online backup program I used to use, frustrated opening QuickBooks or other programs. Don't know if it's related, but thought it might help.

have you checked the permissions on the file that fails to run?
