Anyone use CrashPlan Pro and QuickBooks 2012?

Anyone use this combo? Do you have problems with QuickBooks file being locked so that CrashPlan Pro can't grab the file?

I noticed on the CrashPlan website it says there is a problem with QuickBooks and VSS with the way it backs up the file.

Applications Known to Fail
These applications do not appear to work with VSS. They may back up but the file(s) may not restore to a usable state for the application. We suggest these applications be closed before back up, or use a known method to back up the application files and then use CrashPlan to back up the backup. You can also disable the “Back up open files” option so that CrashPlan makes hourly attempts until it no longer detects that the file is open and then backs it up.

So I am wondering if anyone has had any luck and what the right solution would be to make sure it's being backed up? It seems if you close QB it will be grabbed and backed up.

I have always highly encouraged clients to make backups WITHIN their accounting software...and then back those files up with <whatever backup they're doing>.

This is the most reliable method IMO to backup these types of applications.

Yep - only reliable way to do this is;

1. Schedule frequent (daily) backups to a local folder, making a .qbb file
2. backup *that* folder online

Same for lots of software using a binary storage, database, etc

when there is contention, vss can grab partial data or out of sync data - just use the backup utility to spit out a file, and back that up
