I have 4 hp proliant dl380 g3's that someone gave to me.
I have never configured a server so bare with me. None of them have operating systems on them and when ever I try to install one the POST will go through its stages and then it will say "Non-system disk" It has a Smart array 5300 controller on it with 6 physical drives configured to 1 logical drive. I've tried reconfiguring the logical drive and still nothing. Also I've tried it with many different operating systems on different media's Any help would be greatly appreciated

Try this link, I remember bootable CDs coming with some of those that made config much easier, I'm not sure if this is the right one, but what the heck:

Boot into ORCA (mentioned above)...ensure the RAID config is setup....that a volume is made. If not...run through the ORCA setup and create one. Delete what's there..start over, create a RAID 1 for the OS and a RAID 5 with the remaining 4 for data.
Ensure that the RAID controller is set as 2nd bootable device..CD being first. HP has a "Smart Start" CD that they usually come with..you can download, it's a hand holding setup/install/config wizard...does all the work for you.

Either the RAID controller is not set as a bootable drive, and/or it's not configured and not presenting a volume.
You can do those manually via the BIOS and the "ORCA".....or...you can download the HP SmartStart CD...burn it to disk..boot from the disk...and follow the hand holding GUI wizard which prepares all of that for you, and also inserts the drivers into the OS install for you. http://h18013.www1.hp.com/products/s...art/index.html
