I just installed a range extender and the default setup gave it a slightly different name of SSID_ext. Is that the ideal setup or should it match the original SSID name? It would be nice to have the same SSID, but I'm not sure if that will cause any issues vs having the extender have different SSID. Any thoughts on this topic would be appreciated. Thanks!

Agreed...same SSID for the same network. Unless you're running higher end managed wireless gear, it's "almost seamless". Depends on various brands of gear, what wireless client NICs are being used, etc. Pretty seamless to end user.

Unless you have a managed system it won't be seamless even then most of them aren't truly seemless
If your looking into seemless setups look at unifi or sonic walls |
