Hi,
I am starting another UK based business, and have a name that I really like. Currently the name is not in use and has no trademarks registered, I have registered the .com & .co.uk domains. The name was registered before as a Ltd company that was dissolved in 2009 and the last accounts submitted were in 2005. So it looks like it was dissolved automatically through lack of account submissions. It is extremely unlikely that I will be doing business with anyone that had used the Ltd company before because of geographical reasons. Are there any other issues that I should be aware of with using this name? |

Would a credit check against the old company name reveal poor ficsal history ,outstanding debts or creditors who may still want some cash? It may avoid later hassle of starting off with an inherited bad credit rating and formally alert credit people youre a totally non related biz using same name.

I would agree with citizen. Check with companies house, get a set of the last accounts. (only costs a couple of £).
Ensure there are no ccj's listed against the ltd co. Remember there is at least a 6 yr time limit when it comes to anything legal. You certainly do not want to be associated with a co with outstanding ccj's.

I have received phone calls for a competitor who went out of business and left a lot of debt behind, even having a different name wont keep those calls away. In the us everything credit wise would be based off of an employer id number which would definately be different than the old companies number.
