I did not get the start up package because it involves monthly fee and I don't think I will have the volume to break even. But it's a nice package. You should contact them and get all the info before making a decision.

Yes. That the beauty of Disk Imaging. I can start at Drive 1, stop, do drive 2, stop do drive 3, stop continue drive 2 and so on.

I purchase Disk Imaging "DDI" with network add-on and current monitoring.

My next purchase would be PC3000 UDMi and PC3000 Flash (hopefully within 6 - 12 months).

It depends on you HDD knowledge. I think you can figure out DDI on your own but for PC3000, you might have to take a class. Check with othersteve. He has more exp with DDI. I'm just starting out.

If you haven't start with any DR, get familiar with R-Studio or DDrescue. I kinda like EaseUS because of the price. You will need something after you image the drive to recover deleted, format or repartition drive.

If it's just a straight recovery, then DRE that comes with DDI is sufficient. If your going to purchase DDI, make sure you get the network add-on. It make DRE a lot easier with more functions.

Yes, money can be made if it is all you do...but, be prepared to spend lots of money on projects for which you don't get paid. The industry is based on no data, no charge.

The problem I'm running into is that there's noone local for data recovery ... so it's hard to drum up business for it when people know that their stuff is being sent out. They just go to the big cit and have it delt with there.

It depends. How much are you willing to invest in time and money and how good are you at recovering data? If you think you can offer a $299 flat rate service, likely not.

What kind of tools and software are good for it? Clicking hard drives etc would probably need something real special.

It all depends on why the drive is clicking:
1. Firmware - special hardware tools like PC3000
2. PCB - soldering skills and special hardware tools like PC3000
3. Heads - clean room, special tools, identical donor drives, PC3000 and lots of knowledge and experience
4. Bad sectors - DeepSpar Disk Imager or PC3000 with DE
5. Weak heads - DeepSpar Disk Imager or PC3000 with DE
6. Corrupt file system - various software recovery programs and knowledge
7. Overwritten/deleted files - various software recovery programs and knowledge
8. Broken RAIDs - knowledge, knowledge, knowledge

Anyone know? Or have done it?
