That's my biggest gripe so far....the fact that I cannot bring up the Boot menu and select Safe Mode. To work on a broken system...notably a malware infested system. Safe mode or Safe Mode w/command prompt is one of the first things I to do get to a usable explorer interface.

The performance if Win8 is fine...hell we installed it on an old old Asus netbook...the first single core Atom, with just 1 gig of RAM..and it runs quite well on it.

Love the new Task Mangler. Much appreciate the improved Network Status and features.

Not crazy about Metro menu but we'll get used to making our own Tattoos.

But hate the apparent lack of getting safe mode on a boot failure.

I'll have to check....I had read those steps...but the guide I read had you hit those from within normal bootup. I found nothing stating it still works from a cold bootup. I tried forcing it via shift F8 during bootup for a test..and it didn't work. I'll have to try tomorrow...home for the day, no Win8 box at home.

Thanks for saying something..gives me hope now.

I haven't tested it myself either just reading that article made me think you could do it straight from booting. Let me know how it goes if you get a chance to try it.

iE 10 is horrible, I have a lot of websites that really dislike it. As example my CC company will now open the statement, Eggxpert don't work too, Good thing that Google New Chrome Desktop and Metro app work fine with Windows 8

Tried it on 2x different computers..just installed it on a Pentium 2.8 hyperthread junk rig we had somewhere..1 gig of RAM. Installed quick (18 minutes). Runs fine.

But safe mode....on this computer, and on the netbook mentioned earlier...mashing F8..and Shift+F8..during bootup, does not bring up a menu to opt for Safe mode.

So I'm leaning back towards my original gripe...."Seems you cannot invoke safe mode from a cold boot".

From what I have read, safe mode can be reached by booting from the Windows 8 disc, going to Repair My Computer then Advanced etc. I tried this today and cannot find the Windows Startup Settings (can't remember the exact name) bit that is supposed to be under Advanced. I've seen screen shots of it but I don't have this option.
Can also confirm that F8 with or without Shift didn't work and neither did Escape.
