As NiNite does all the work while I'm off reading or catching up on email, I don't charge for installing any of these free programs, It's just me personally, I can't take money for that silly stuff. My OVER-KILL list of programs isn't really that big-O deal of you really look at what it amounts to. Both cd burning programs are there because they do things differently. Also I'm a true advocate of using Avast Internet Security with the full license. I have used it for the past (cant count how many years), and it has always worked very good with low overhead. I install the free version then upgrade for 60 dollars. that gets me a KEY that can be used for 3 computers, for 2 years. So, I just sell the KEY for 20 bucks. Avast can be loaded with NiNite and it takes me 1 min to put in the key. I generally use MSE when I feel the client is not that dangerous, and not going to the porn sites.

NOTE: Most of these little programs are for MY benefit more than for the client. If I ever have to come back to that box, I know exactly whats running there, and I dont have to worry about tracking down something to open a spread sheet or running a scan with Malwarebytes..if it will even work depending on how bad its infected, or using 7-ZIP, or burning a backup cd without having to use that BIG BLOB of crap that's usually installed by default for burning software, anything else for that matter. ALSO, I install TeamViewer for remote access for an easy fix if the computer is running ok.

There are a few others that I keep on my thumb drive if I'm having a hard time tracking down a driver, which are;

SIW
and Belarc

Mostly I use Belarc to make a snapshot of the system for my records so I can go back to it years later when I get "that call", to see if its even worth rebuilding the box. Mainly to see how old the box is and what ram/cpu its running.

The list never stops...have a few more depending on the situation.

Hard Disc Sentinel (for a BASIC check of the hard drive hours and status/temp) Also reports bad sectors. (However my all time favorite HD program EVER, in any category, is SpinRite 6)

Perfect disc (keep free space defragged, and speed up apps by learning what programs/files are used most often, and moving them to the outer edge of the platter). (I don't care what any one or review SEZ about defragging, these little maintenance services on the files do improve performance...if not, I wouldn't waste my time on it. I set it to run every 60 days, so its really not that bad--not waring out the HD anyway.

Generally, I have everything I need on a thumb drive, and a folder already prepared to just drag to the desktop. Then with in that folder, I have another one that I plop into the root of C:\ called tools. In there I have a minimum of 12 to 15 little one-click scripts used to kill running services/Trojans. And when Malwarebytes or spybot are shut down and will not start, these little service killers REALLY DO WORK, but you have to constantly keep them up to date to be effective. Only I know that folder is there, and it saves me MUCH TIME. They may be outdated by the time I get back to use them, but generally they are simple enough to kill something that's knocking out malwayrebytes or spybot. I don't have to fumble around looking for tools, I already know there in the root of C and I can get rite to them.

I have changed my process over the years. I used to use spybot and immunize, Super AntiSpyware, and leave programs hidden on clients computers. Some of the stuff I would put on via ninite I did because it was an easy check mark.

With D7 I don't need to do that preload anything. Everything I need is in one place, constantly updated. I have a process I follow, then I remove it.

I try to leave java off, but a lot of my business clients need it.

I used to use Spinrite as well, but now I clone the drive and use other methods that I feel are safer, and in some ways faster, and haven't had the need to even try it anymore.

Tis about it. Based on "per customer"...whatever MS Office they're using..before running all MS Updates so to ensure Office is patched up too.
Same here except I do firefox instead of chrome.

It freaks me out how simliar you and I are in our processes compared to everyone else on here (using this thread as an example)

Why do you guys install 7-Zip? Why not use the native zip functions in windows 7?

I've found the SoftThinks website, but its a little counter intuitaive?

They seem to have two products, PC Agnel One and PC Angel 2009, and I'm not sure which one is the right one to create the backup/recovery partition.

On top of that, if you click the downloads link under products it says "Available Soon" and if you click on PC Angel One under store it will allow you to download a "free beta".

Not sure at all?
