Default Outlook Connector

well i spent an hour today racking my brains at a customers office to figure this out while trying to configure her outlook 2007 to work with her msn.com webmail address

Problem: If you have an MSN or Hotmail account and are suddenly getting ‘access denied’ errors when you try to download mail through Outlook you probably missed the announcement that access using the HTTP protocol was going to end for good on Sept 1, 2009.

Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error (0x800CCC33) : 'Access to the account was denied. Verify that your username and password are correct. The server responded 'Forbidden'.

From now on out users will need to use either the Outlook Connector or POP3/SMTP.

Outlook Connector - works with Outlook 2003/2007 only.

I don't normally run into anybody using hotmail, but it is good to know anyway. Without me going crazy on a search, do they support IMAP? I would think that is the most practical way to go.

They recently switched from webmail and HTTP access only to POP3 and webmail only. The POP3 can be setup in any email client program. They do not offer IMAP at this time.

If they offer POP3 access, then what is the need for the Outlook Connector? I feel as if I am missing something here?
