WEBCAM in replacement for DVR CAM

i am just curios if a webcam can be used as a cam for a dvr instead of the recommended one...? have not tried it but i was hoping if someone have tried this and software used, how does it goes..? God bless..

You can use a webcam instead of a DVR cam but the features are not the same. It's like having a TV plugged to a computer instead of a monitor. The software also plays an important role but if it is for security i will go with DVR cam.

For our security system we use an Axis IP camera which allows motion detection image and video FTP file upload and our alam system sends a text when triggered. So we can simply view it from anywhere that has a net connection if it ever triggered and the recording is instantly offsite.
