Default External/USB Dial Up modem work w/ Win 8?

I'm setting up a new PC/Win 8 for "Grandma" customer who presently is using XP on a dial up connection. The new computer will have to use a USB/Dial up modem/dongle type.

I was looking on the modem box & I see the specs say Vista/7. I don't think this should make a difference since we are using USB connection, correct?

It's been awhile since I've used one of these. Do I need to install drivers for Win 8/ 64-bit to make this modem work?

I know for a fact that drivers will work if you install them in window 7 compatibly mode. I had 2 different machines I tried this on, both were sound drivers, but same deal should apply.
