What are your thoughts on a section dedicated to mobile techs?
There are enough issues specific to mobile techs, at least as much as remote support, to make it worthwhile. A lot of what we do is different from storefront operations. Some of the areas I think we could discuss are: Payment methods Vehicle selection Average call length When do you stop and take it to the shop? Parts inventory on site Workshop location and equipment Customer looking over your shoulder Printers/ scanners/ peripherals Networks Difference between home, small business, large business Call scheduling Calls per day Nights/weekends Mileage fees Tools Uniform/clothing I'm sure there are many other things that are peculiar to working mobile.

I like the idea. Particularly the part of "customers looking over your shoulder." And to go along with that...."what was wrong with it?"

Thats a good idea. Always looking for something to improve my service.
I'm also interested on "Parts Inventory on Site" If you have to park your car several blocks, how do you carry as much parts to avoid going back to our car. Looking for a nice bag but not a suitcase.

I agree. We face a unique set of circumstances an it'd be nice to have a centralized place for those topics. Sign me up.

talk about amazing. I had that thought earlier today. Im all for it. It does seem there are two types of techs. The Shop owners and the Mobile techs.
I think it would be quite helpful.

Basically what Xander says in the next post.
Everyone always suggests some different sub-section... There's nothing in your list that couldn't easily fit into an existing category. Someone even suggested a section for several obscure OS distros a while back.... I don't get it. Edited to remove sarcasm. Last edited by 14049752; 06-21-2012 at 02:26 AM. |

I think it's safe to say that most of us regulars use the "New Posts" link at the top. With that in mind, if we add a new sub-section, will that increase the posts on those subjects? We don't have a ton of threads specifically relevant to the topic. Why not just improve the use of tags on threads to aid searches? (And by that, I don't mean repeating words from the title in the tags {rolls eyes}. If threads were tagged better, we'd probably have a lot less repeat threads but, instead of "Diagnosing a BSODing HP DX-9000 on-site [diagnostics, mobiletech]", we get "Help [windows, windows xp, crash])
I'm not against a sub-forum for it but 1) I don't see many posts that would go in there and 2) once we do, that's when Bryce will make one.
