Hiring a consultant

I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on hiring a business consultant/mentor?

I just recently heard about Robin Robins and her Technology Marketing Toolkit. (Google it if you're interested, I didn't want to link to it). Has anyone bought this toolkit and if so what is your opinion? Did it work. It's a $3,000 investment plus $175 per month to stay in the group. There appears to be a great amount of positive reviews and testimonies about her and her products.

Is there anyone else I should be looking at?
