I love DVD Decrypter
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_Decrypter Each DVD ends up being about 5 gig or so. It does no shrinking and I would say keep most of the quality of the DVD. Plus its fast. Its no longer made and has not been updated in years, but still works great on most dvd's. |

I use dvdfab, backsup DVDs to just about any format you need. I store them on my whs 2011 box, and use a program called my movies, which catalogs, downloads cover art and integrates into WMC.

I've played around with all this transcoding stuff for a number of years.
The best solution I've come across is to ditch the xbox360 as a player and get a Linux based satellite receiver. I have a vu+ UNO, which, aside from acting as a satellite receiver, can play multimedia files with the appropriate plugin. The only file format it WON'T play is wma files. As for dvd's, I simply backup the entire disk to my server either as an ISO or the Video_TS folder. Yes. It handles ISO files directly. It can read and play them without transcoding. And the menu system is retained. Also it plays MKV files without problem, something I found the Xbox to have problems with. Yes, it does take a lot of space, but this is the best solution I have come across. Regards. |
