Yeah it can happen to big tier-1 brands. They outsource some components (such as the cf flash card in this case) to some vendor and it opens up exposure to some prank or industrial espionage. Not long ago a similar thing happened to Dell....but was reginally localized (some deliveries in the UK...not really the rest of the world).
