Can't add google to I.E. 8 search list

Arrg!

I seem to remember that I fixed an issue like this a long time ago, but I can't remember what I did!

In a nutshell;

Win XP/SP3/ I.E. 8

Trying to add more search providers to the search box. I click on add more providers & it takes me to the add ons page;

From there I select google, but when I click the add button, I get the yellow "error on page" triangle in the lower left corner of the browser.

I reset all the browser settings, still no good.

Help!
