seo question
I am new to seo, but have a base understanding of most of the different aspects. I live in a SMALL town and I did the website for his hotel.
Unfortunately, it doesn't show up in the next town over, which is somewhat bigger-- Cushing Oklahoma if you pay attention to the pipeline news. Anyway, I need to fix this as fast as I can. There are currently only two hotels that even show up in Cushing, but I want to start building his seo for when the pipeline goes in, as they are already building a Best Western and an Executive Inn and Suites. How do I do it the fastest? He doesn't need to be number one yet (obviously) but it should be easy to get him to show up if there are only two or three others around, right? Thanks for the help!

The only quick way that will definately work would be a google adwords campaign.
Then when your normal SEO (tags, content, correct keywords etc) gets a better listing you can stop the adwords It's impossible to tell more without knowing the site you are trying to optimise

What he said.. and also make sure to have a Google Places page as well for customers to get basic info in one spot + maps.

I have the Place page taken care of. This was the second website I ever built, and have since started using joomla. The website is drumrightinnandlodge.com. Its only three pages, but the guy is CHEAP!! So he got cheap. Anyway, content is very little-- but competition is also very little. What can I do folks?
I soooo appreciate the help. I'm caught with my pants down right now.

I won't comment on the design.......
As for SEO, there are no meta tags as such, you need to get the basics right before anything else. There are a bunch of sites that will analyse SEO for free, just google for them and try them out.

Keywords need to be comma seperated not seperated with semicolons.
H1 tag should only be used once per page. <H1>: Located Near Cushing <H1>: Contact our Hotel Staff Search google for free XML sitemap service. Build XML sitemap and place it on the root of the domain. Ping search engines with new sitemap info so they know to crawl the site. Declare language of site in html tag. <html lang="en" xml:lang="en" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> VERY IMPORTANT! Make proper use of the image alt tags. All images should have alt tags and they should contain the keywords you want to rank for and not descriptions of the image like "Front Office" and "Elk". Your text/HTML ratio is low. Need more text content with keywords included. I suggest using Firefox and getting the SEOquake plugin, it's a very useful plugin for SEO. Hope this helps! Simon.
