Why not just provide them with a report of what you've done. I don't understand the benefit to the client by allowing them to watch.

Why would you let them watch? this is not something you can do in an hour. SEO work is a lot of hard work and can take weeks.

SEO tends to be a long term process, often done over several weeks, involving an awful lot of work in market research and keyword analysis. Although there are small things that can be done in an hour to correct problems in a customer's website, there is no quick fix to SEO.
Also, you may not necessarily see the results of each incremental change for about week or more.
Why not agree a plan with the customer that you will do a certain amount of work over several weeks, report back on what you are doing and also report on the effect you have had on their search engine rankings.

Definitely makes sense. What kind of numbers do you guys think would be reasonable for SEO.

I guess it all depends on keyword competition and the individual client's situation...

Just looking for a range of prices somewhere to get my head around an idea of what to charge,
