Question laptop with xp BIG problems

When i power it on i get" a disk read error occured" so i reboot and press F12
the i have 4 options...this is the screen i have " in touch with tomorrow Toshiba" then 4 tabs below first tab is 3 cds, second tab is one cd, third tab is a disquette and fourth looks like a network tab

i know id you put in the restore cd and select the cd tab you will restore the HD.......

BUT I DONT WANT TO DO THAT......i need to be able to get in without erasing
everything on my laptop......i tried last nite and it was a fluke i was able to get in....is there different comands that you know so i can access my HD

please help anyone

sounds like your HDD is damaged get your data asap and then wipe it see how it goes. If you have the problem agian then get the HDD replaced becuase that is probably the source of the problem.

Default laptop problems

how do i restart in safe mode?...like i said i have 4 tabs
1,is 3 cd's
2,is one cd
3,is a disquette
4, is a network looking tab

i just want to save the info on my laptop and then just do a restore

please help

to boot into safe mode, just after the BIOS loads, press the F8 key and it will ask you which mode you want to boot into. you might have to get a boot cd such as Ultimate boot CD for Windows as i don't think safemode is going to work for you. It's worth a shot but if your HDD is screwed up it likely won't.

ive been on this laptop since this morning and no go

Safe mode wont work because it has a disk read error. If it cant read the disk it cant read the files to start safe mode. I recommend you use a boot CD such as Ultimate Boot CD (you'll need another computer to download/burn it) which gives you a Windows like interface so you can lifeboat the data off onto some external storage.

Do NOT use the restore CD until you attempt this. The restore CD will probably delete everything. If you dont read this post in time and run it anyway, post back here and we'll hook you up with some methods for data recovery.
