Toshiba has about 50 zillion drivers to choose from, none of which have made this yellow exclamation go away. As usual a very unhelpful driver download site.

Ok, I have a customer who has a machine with a SMALL (built in) SSD drive as the C: drive, and a large D: drive for vids music etc.

After all the Win8 Updates - the WinSXS folder Ballooned to 12GB and made the Windows DIR a total of 18.6GB!!!

So now I am trying to install Office 2013. I downloaded the file, and clicked it to run - it gives me NO options for custom location - and immediately kicks back saying not enough space - needs 5.5 or something free.

This is REALLY bugging me.

I am writing to see if anyone has discovered a method to do this? Like a properties thingy I could put in the shortcut (e.g. setup.exe -d:, or setup.exe -custom)

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I really don't want to have to reformat this system - and neither does the customer.

What do YOU say on your answering machine message?

Hey guys & girls,

I've got an answering machine via my toll free number that people hit when i'm not available to answer the phone. I'm thinking i can improve the script i say on there. I wanted to get your input as to what you say, so people leave a message and actually wait for you to callback.

Right now, i'm dealing with people who 1. Don't even leave a message or 2. Leave a message, but then call someone else up. By the time i get back to them, it's too late.

Interestingly, most calls i get are in the morning, and people seem to just want instant resolution to their problems... as in, someone that day, that hour, or they'll just find someone else. Quality of work seems to be less of an issue.

Hi all. After many, many iterations I think I finally completed my digital brochure. The way I see it, unless someone is shopping for a specialized consulting service, nobody is going to sit there and read gobs of text about how I'm the greatest IT ever and will always save the day, etc.

I designed the brochure so that anyone will know exactly the services I offer in 2 minutes or less with brief bullet points. The very first line, which I consider the most important, pretty much sums up my entire business.

Would love some feedback, good or bad, thank you.

I'm trying to set up a secondary "sever" where I work.

This consists of a machine running windows XP on it (pro I believe) and several other computers running mostly windows seven professional on them.

The other computers have certain directories shared to certain users, which have to have their own user accounts on the machine the files are being shared from. They are password protected because they contain confidential information like payroll information and employee information.

So lets say for example, on one of the girls computers I have it set up so that her entire my documents folder is shared with everyone because nothing in it is private.

I can get on this "server" that I'm setting up, fire up syncBack and create a profile and set it up to backup her my documents folder.

Now another girls computer, has nothing publicly shared meaning everything shared requires a user name and password. This employees computer doesn't even show up in network places under the "sever" running XP. But it is pingable both by the computer name and IP address.

I can also access the machine from another windows 7 workstation, and I am prompted to input the password.

Basically I can't connect the windows XP "sever" to any of the workstations running windows 7 professional if the shares on those windows 7 machines have password protections. If they don't have some sort of public share that everyone is allowed into then I can't see the machine at all in network places.

Not sure why?

Found this solution so that a M$ Windows user can use a free version of VNC to connect to a OS X Server. Making the required changes for OS X workstation is with in the GUI (in system preferences>sharing). But that is not available for Server. So there is some CLI work. But first you need to make sure that you have screen sharing and remote management turned on in the Server app. This gets ARD up and running. BTW, I always turn on ssh.

Credit to the OP of course...
http://technosense.blogspot.com/2009...d-connect.html

1. sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/kickstart -configure -allowAccessFor -allUsers -privs -all

2. sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/kickstart -configure -clientopts -setvnclegacy -vnclegacy yes

3. sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/kickstart -configure -clientopts -setvncpw -vncpw whateverpasswordyouwanttouse <<<< but it is command line so be aware of certain characters that are illegal.

4. sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/kickstart -restart -agent -console

This is a great way for a local MS user to be able to get to the server without the latency of logmein, teamviewer, etc. There are paid apps out there, one I tested called remotix looked pretty good. But I found out I had to have OpenGL2. The laptop I was testing with was a D610 and could only go up to OpenGL1.4.

The setup I had reported it was not encrypted when a connection is made but I did not worry about it. With in the LAN it should be fine and if I'm outside I setup a VPN tunnel first then VNC through that.

I just came across a thread about a phone service and while its useful its is quite expensive

I just got a PI and will be setting up a a PBX service with obi and GV

I will have options for directions, times of operation, website address, vm for the appropriate department etc;

This way it will filter out certain things so if somebody simply wanted to know if we were closed or not they dont have to talk to a person

Best of all it will be extremely cheap since PI uses only 5v power
