Whats the best way to check what sort of RAM the client's desktop/laptop has installed? Is there an app which will tell you what sort of modules they have so I don't have to open up the machine to check the stickers on the module?
cheers

My current post count will not let me post links. So I will just tell you what to type into your favorite search engine
For a super-detailed view you will want SIW - System Information for Windows. There is a catch though, you're not allowed to use it for commercial purposes without paying them their $70 license fee.
For a free alternative, look for HWInfo. Sorry I couldn't post links.

Memtest86+ does a pretty good job of telling you very specific info on the ram it finds. I know I have come accross ram sticks with absolutely no way to tell what they are other than the basics and Memtest86+ seems to decipher alot more info.

You could also use Crucial's system scanner tool. (http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/)

Thanks for the replies. Yeah now that I think about it memtest would be the obvious choice. I'll try out the other suggestions too.

CPU-Z (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php) does the trick for me. Tells you which slots are used and which are free too.

+1 I use this all the time. Very small and can be easily run from a USB Flash drive.
