I have installed office 2007 small business on a clients computer for him to phone back 8 days later to say that it is no longer working - you can only open and view documents etc
Visited onsite and tried to reactivate it which didnt work, could not click on the activate button so re entered his key through programs add remove
this didnt work either
So i phoned Microsoft and spoke with a support person there for 1 hour and 20 minutes and he was unable to solve it either and said that he would phone me back after he has researched it further and has a solution - still waiting for that call
It seems like the installation and activation (which when installed went on the internet and activated nicely) reverted back to a 25 time trail and then locked itself which is normal if you do not activate office
Anyway has anyone else had this problem and managed to solve it
Also will add that it is on a Vista machine

Chicky, I came across a similar thing the other day. While I was working on a clients computer I got the "Windows needs to be activated because of hardware changes" message which was strange because I wasnt doing anything with hardware at all. I activated Windows with no problems but then when I opened Office it said Office needs to be activated too (even though it was working fine and activated an hour earler).

I dont know why it became unactivated and I couldnt activate it by re-entering the key. I checked the key many times and I was entering it correct. I did a total uninstall and reinstall of Office and it worked fine after that.

Does this have anything to do with the new Office Genuine Authenication stuff that Microsoft have just released?

Actually, thats a really good call Goob. It is probably that. It would explain why both of us got it at the same time even though it was running fine previously.

Its a huge pain in the butt, and there is no 'crack' available that I know of as yet to stop it, if you own a non legal copy that is. If you do own a legit copy, you shouldn't have any problems with it

I have ended up solving this, fingers crossed, by deleting a dat file and then activating over the internet again. Looks like it has worked or it could be a 60 day trail, will find out in a month or two
I was thinking that it was something to do with an update because my machine had done an update the day before but it was fine
Will more than likely never know what caused this, one of those strange microsoft mysteries
