Hitchhiker (http://www.freewareppc.com/communication/hitchhiker.shtml): Tries to automatically connects and tests all Wireless access points in the area. Will also test internet connectivity if you manage to connect to an access point.

WiFiFoFum (http://www.freewareppc.com/communication/wififofum.shtml): Helps you physically locate wireless access points.

zsIRC (http://www.freewareppc.com/communication/zsirc.shtml): Light but functional IRC Client.

zaTelnet (http://www.freewareppc.com/communication/zatelnet.shtml): Telnet/SSH client, good for logging into machines/servers.

Total Commander (http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/totalcommander.shtml): An enhanced File Manager, I use this to browse networks of the access points im connected to (eg, you can download a file onto your PDA from an XP computer.

Speaking of Palms, I havent tried it yet but Windows Mobile can emulate Palm devices to run their software with StyleTap (http://styletap.com/).
