Hi everyone,
Your suggestions and advice would be appreciated.

I have an eMachines M6810 laptop.

The LCD lid was not "holding" on my laptop. After investigating, I found that the lid brackets were sheared away. So, I ordered replacements for those and installed them.

The problem was that when I was testing the laptop out after I installed the brackets, it was working fine, but all of a sudden (and for what reason I can't determine), the laptop lost AC power and started on battery power. Since then, and after the battery finally drained out, I haven't been able to power up the laptop.

To complicate matters, I damaged the cable which attaches the body to the power button panel. See this image: mundocorp.com/images/products/kbbzl_m6800.gif
The jack where the cable terminates is damaged, and the cable doesn't stay by itself now, plus the cable itself might be damaged. I can't tell.

The thing is, however, this was broken before the power cut out. Even though the cable wasn't properly attached, I was able to hold it in place in order start up the laptop after I installed the new brackets. This makes me think that this is NOT the problem. I could be wrong, of course.

I'm thinking the problem is either a bad power adapter or some connection problem inside the power jack on the main body. I don't really know how to diagnose these problems, however.

I live in Calgary, Canada, and it appears NO ONE in Canada repairs eMachines laptops. Having to ship the item back to the US for repair would probably have a total cost more than the unit is worth. If anyone knows of a emachines laptop repair outlet in Calgary, please divulge.

If anyone has any insight on how I can further diagnose the problem, some troubleshooting tips, or any other suggestions or advice, please let me know!

Thanks in advance.

I don't do too much with laptops aside from replace drives and add memory. I'd consider how old it is and how much a new one would cost vs repair cost. It's probably cheaper to buy a new one
