Hello all,

I am sort of out of ideas on these two without giving them to my soldering buddy (who's packed with business at the moment).

Problem 1:

Sony s150p, 2x256mb cards, p4 1.4 ... bla bla bla

Issue: Does not boot, cannot turn on, the only thing that I noticed is that the battery still charges, even though nothing starts. I have tried reseating the ram, reseating the cpu, tried unplugging cmos battery. I have pretty much done anything I can think of. Are there any suggestions

Problem 2:

IBM thinkpad r50, 2x512mb, p4 1.6... bla bla bla

Issue: Does not turn on at all, does not charge, doesnt do anything. What can I do, tried same things as with sony with no luck. Is there a dead capacitor, cus I checked and didnt see any.

Thanks for the time,

Phrozt

Definitely a mobo for the IBM

As for the Sony do you get any lights on the system to come on at all? When you say the battery charges do you mean the battery light comes on? Most likely a bad mobo but could also possibly be a bad CPU.

you said you reseated the CPU in the sony. Did you make sure everything was tight, did you reapply thermal compound? I once had a laptop brought in for repair and it did the same thing, but the first time it booted, then it crashed never to boot again. The problem was this guy had already tried "fixing" it himself, and did not reseat the CPU correctly. It booted up long enough to fry the CPU.
