So is it just our firm today or does it seem like malware activity is WAY up today? Lots of rootkit calls lots of Facebook related infection today. It just seems abnormally high.

I haven't had much today, but last week was busy. Mostly with the system security virus...

Facebook-related infections? Really? Now I know that folks get hit a lot on MySpace, but didn't think so on Facebook.
Anyone know how folks are getting hit on Facebook? Is it through the ad banner (which I have Adblock Plus running on pigfoot's tweaked FF 3.5.2), or is it with all those damned cutesy "applications" that people want you to install, like "Send a Drink", etc.?
I use Facebook quite regularly now, so I'd like to know in order to discuss the situation with clients who use it.

Nah I installed XP antivirus 2010 with Super security center on everyones computers.
It keeps the virii at bay, almost every second to be exact.

That is a great program, I install it on all of my computers and it always finds infections! Really comes handy when working on client computers.....

I think a lot of it has something to do with the 4chan dot org link that keep popping up on FB. It always looks like a friend is trying to get you to go look at the link. I hear bad things about the site. Whatever you do don't go there!

Every machine i have scanned so far has rootkit+koobface worm they all are on facebook seems prevx is not picking it up? but everything else is.
I did go there and found nothing.
I need to find out how people are getting infected.
Its not enough to install an application on your facebook page, that would just spreed the infection to other accounts.
At some point a user must click on a open file after downloading, unless he/she has a old IE/Firefox and a worm is simply using a security hole?????

I had two clients on the 18th of August who were infected via Facebook on the 17th. The only thing they could think of was some sort of 'we're related' app but we couldn't end up tracking down what exactly it was.
Both had "Personal Antivirus," but they were easy removals because they shut down their computers and called me as soon as it happened.

Yes, it's been the same story for the last 3 years at least: every August, I get a spike of infected machines, which get infected with stuff that bypassed the up-to-date antivirus (it doesn't matter what brand, I've seen it with NOD32/AVG/Norton/McAfee/...) and gets right into the operating system (basic drivers like nfs.sys and agp.sys, system restore, last know good config, etc...)
I think the anti-virus companies should stop their staff from going on holiday during August, so they keep up with the virus industry
