Ive got an email telling that i should remove all the dirty things inside of my laptop i mean (porn videos). Sorry about that. I would like to ask if anyone of you who is always traveling encountered that scenario. The email says that the inspector check your laptop and look for movies, illegal softwares and pirated windows too. Is this true and implemented especially in canada (vancouver airport?) thank you.

will you give me a link if you already read this kind of scenario?

I don't think anyone on this forum would condone that sort of behaviour  I don't use any pirated software, as I appreciate how much work is put into developing software, so this is just plain wrong.

Personally, I hope that they are carrying out checks. I would happily pass my hardware over to be checked because they wouldn't find any infringements of any laws, so the joke is on them.

Solution to the problem: BUY THE BLOODY SOFTWARE!

Porn is illegal now?

Depends on what it is ...

I hate border patrol to be honest.
My dad and I were camping in Arizona and they detained us for no valid reason, for about 30 minutes, they separated my father and I, told each one of us that they found drugs in our car and wanted us to confess to it.
I laughed at them and said that was B.S, and they eventually let us go.

Anyways, I don't want some Border Patrol guy with a chip on his shoulder handling my expensive computer equipment..

Its amazing the crap they try to get away with. Theres actually a few groups that go around and film Boarder Patrol guys trying to detain people for some outlandish stuff.

For people that dont know their rights they can get caught into their crap pretty easy.

Yeah, I think a lot of us here have been subjected to that kind of treatment by customs. I was detained with my dad for over 4 hours and he nearly got the glove treatment. They had sniffer dogs on us and everything, so I'm definitely not sympathetic towards them. :)

I know this is irrelevant to the topic poster. But I want to interject something for all your knowledge. Since we lost the point already.

I live 1 mile above mexico. The border patrol is corrupt and its one of Americas best kept secrets. Most border patrol agents are mexican and empathetic to the cause of mexico border hoppers. The border patrol agents here are well know for taking money to get family member across. I have a friend who started charge about 500 per person to cross over going through the deserts east of San Diego. He said sometimes they would see him, stop him knowing what hes doing and turn a blind eye "just get the **** out of my sight" My friend was not one of those load 20 in a truck type. 1 or 2 a week in a Nissan Sentra.

Hes also been stopped and detained and let go with no charges, he claims about 5 separate times.

I am not lying about anything of this. Also not ALL border patrol agents are phony defectors. So I should not generalize. But the corruption is there and deep. And Im sure drugs and who knows what else get across that border under the unwatchful eye of border patrol agents.

@ Michiana border patrol agents get some sort of reverse Stockholm syndrome (not sure if thats the term I should use) or some sort of guilt for busting thier people so when they get a chance and use "mexican police tactics" like accusing an american of having drugs in their car.

I ve been stopped by the mexican police for reving my engine (91 mustang 5.0) they saw I was white stopped me. Told me 80 bucks or they will tow my car for no registration I stuck to my guns and they let me go. Got down the street and boom the same cop stopped me again said give him 10 bucks or he will find another reason to hold me or he will plant drugs in my car. I just handed over ten bucks. Im not in the U.S!!!!!

The main problem with border patrol can be easily remedied. Get rid of the Spanish only barrier. To be an agent, A. You must past the fluent Spanish speaking test. or B. Pass the artificial language test that test ones ability to learn a language fluently. Making Border Patrol without a language barrier would encourage more ethnicities, decrease sympathy, and create a ethnic system of checks and balances.

I failed the artificial language test. ITS HARD it has a low pass rate!!!!!!!!!

Support politicians who want to close the border!

I found this for you to feast on.

Well then I'm all ears whats the alternative.

Civilian oversight. There is talk of doing this in my county due to police corruption.

@op They are not looking for illegal software. It happens very rarely. The short solution is to put a password on your hard drive. They can ask you for your password, but you don't have to give it to them. It would be the same as testifying against yourself.

That is total nutjob B.S. what the heck was that guys point. He come rolling up with a video camera already rolling he is looking for a fight. Look at his other videos also hes got like 4 or 5 including cops and he rants and raves about all sorts of silly stuff. "what kind of gun is that, and I need to know why you need to carry such a big gun" its called DETERRENT VALUE!

It a**holes like this that trivialize important issues. No conecpt of the phrase "pick your battles" Misinterpret constitutional rights and want to argue about something that should be taken up in a court of law not inside of a car.

Look at his other videos to know he is crazy. I think he got cut a lot of slack.

This is how easy it is to pass through a checkpoint. You slow down roll down the window stop. Say U.S. Citizen and split. Very easy.

Im not a US citizen.
However everything I believe I know about the US constitution and US law would not allow you ordinary law official to do anything like this.

Question what you are told, don't just believe it simply because it sounds believable or you want to believe it.

Im all about rights and constitutional protections. Im not always up to date on current events, I believe in questioning everything and everyone. Im a cynical person.

However there is a time and place to question the government and constitution sitting in your car on a hot day and playing victim is not one of them. He claimed he wanted to go to work and that stopping at the border is wasting his time, but yet he waste more time fight it. Come on! There is a fine line between standing up for your rights. And simply being a dramatic a$$, attempting to seal a self fulfilling prophecy he created.

Im not a fan of the Border Patrol. As I stated earlier, but Im not going to pick a fight with them and cry how I was mistreated knowing I forced the situation.

Question everything, get people involved, share your experience. Don't drive to a checkpoint with your gun half cocked. One day he will need a cop and wish he wasn't such an ass. But its easy for these nutty people to be hypocrites when things don't go their way.

Then he will turn around and cry law enforcement was not doing enough to help him.

I don't think I will ever travel to the US again, when voting G.W.B into office for a second term I just can never forgive you for that, just horror!

He must mean that a foreigner should not make comments on US internal affair.

Here we learn allot about the US in school, most of what I learned in school doesn't apply any more, as the US is no longer a beacon for personal freedom and justice.

I'm sorry, but what happens in the US touches the whole world in no small way, not just you so I'm "entitled" to have an opinion.

I do know this is not a political forum, but we must be able to talk about these things with ease. cant we?

I would like to add, I did not mean what I sad about your law officials to be a statement, I meant it to be more of a question if everything has changed that much.
Can they really stop you, examine your computer fully, and charge you for any illegal item you have that is not related to terrorism?

I think anger blinds, and that just happened to the US.
All the solders that fought in the war of Independence and give their lives for our (the world followed the US slowly after 1776) freedom I BELIEVE are not so happy now.

I used to love the US, and I still do, my contry has may things that we got from the USA
.
But the Bush thing put one nail in that coffin.

(And the Adults Only that GTA SA received because of the Hot Coffee patch put another nail in there.
To make sex and nudity worse then death and mayhem points to there being something wrong, in my mind. :) )

Wow, I am happy to be living in Europe. Nowadays, they have started following US 'directives' at the border but at least we have an option of driving or going by train. I am seriously amazed at how much Americans are bothered by this..
When I went to the US 2 years ago, my only visit so far, the way, I was handled at the airport security as if I am a suspect. Once he says, open the bag and then he says, stay away and don't touch it. I mean, WTF? Can't you be clear on what you want? And then I see reputed TV show, 60 minutes, sort of 'educating' people through the show, without 'really' telling the officers how much people are unhappy. They rather highlight how these agents are stressed and all.
Look, terrorists are not some idiots, probably they are as smart as the officers and they have connections 'inside'. That is the ONLY reason, they manage to do their job. Terrorism is not in the gun or bomb, its in the head. I believe that all work needs to be done before they reach the airport. Bothering law abiding citizens, confiscating their laptops is not going to help.
I hope, they understand very soon that we just want to live in peace and by this way, they are not helping. (on the top of that the strain it puts on the tax payers is enormous)

I couldn't say it any better than Toby Keith.

Toby Keith Lyrics (http://www.lyricsondemand.com/t/tobykeithlyrics/index.html)
Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue / The Angry American Lyrics (http://www.lyricsondemand.com/t/tobykeithlyrics/courtesyoftheredwhiteandbluetheangryamericanlyrics .html)

Spoken:

Following September 11th last year, everybody that was a poet or writer or a
song writer of any kind had a reason to write some words down or some thoughts
down on a piece of paper. And I was no different than anybody else, that's
what you do when you do what I do. And Uhh

My father served in the army in the 50's he lost his eye in a training combat
mission. He came home he put up a flag at the farm I was raised on. I lost
him six months prior to the attacks on New York City and the United States and
Uhh that flag flew out there in that yard and it's flown there every day.

He raised me right and he never bitched one time about losing his eye. Never
heard him cry about it one time, he was glad to go do it, that's why we're free
today and it's our turn to stand on what our fathers and fore fathers did for
us and make sure we don't let them down.

I wrote a song in the following days after September 11th it's called the
"Angry American" and I want to send it out to my father tonight.

Sang ....

American Girls and American Guys
We'll always stand up and salute
We'll always recognize
When we see Ole Glory Flying
There's a lot of men dead
So we can sleep in peace at night
When we lay down our head

My daddy served in the army
Where he lost his right eye
But he flew a flag out in our yard
Till the day that he died
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy
In the land of the free.

Now this nation that I love
Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flying in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the 4th of July

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shaking her fist
And the eagle will fly
And there's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringing her bell
And itll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Ahhh Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Ohhh Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you'll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
'Cause we'll put a boot in your ass
It's the American way

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shaking her fist
And the eagle will fly
And there's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringing her bell
And itll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Uhhh Ohhh
Of the Red, White and Blue
Ohhh Ohh Oh
Of My Red, White and Blue

There is a reasonable chance this is one of many internet hoax letters that periodically make the rounds. Does anyone think searching a Laptop or any data device will ever yield any useful terrorism data?

Have terrorist shown them selfs to be so dumb as to bring their terrorism data with them to work on in the plane on their way to commit or plan something?

Also, you don't need a metal knife to stab someone, you can you plastic and they are just a useful a weapon.

I believe this method of fighting terrorism is called Brute Force, and its useless.

They probably check to laptops for kiddie porn. It has been known to come across country lines from Mexico. I would imagine the same is true for overseas if not worse.

What program would you use to check for terrorism data. Browse all his word docs, pdfs, browser history?

Anything can be a weapon. If Im going to fight a hijacker everyones chances of success stand far greater if he has a plastic homemade knife over a sharp steel one :)

I doubt anyone would let their plane be hijacked with a melee weapon ever again.

Looking after people who deserve to be looked after is never a bad thing. Unfortunately there will always be those who attempt to game the system. They, however, are not a reason to condemn the system. It's the people, like that, who steal from their fellow citizens that deserve condemnation. The vast majority of people want to be productive and contribute to society.

For each additional person, US$3,260 is added to the general poverty threshold. So the poverty level for a family of four would be US$19,350.
The minimum wage in the United States is US$5.15 an hour, which means that a family of four with both parents working full-time minimum-wage jobs would earn US$21,424 per year (assuming 40 hours worked per week).

OK I am getting tired of this.

We are not even number one in freedom of speech. And now we have "free speech zones" so we are not allowed to protest around presidential events.

It is time the United States start examining how other countries are doing so well in all these areas and not be afraid to learn from them.
