I like ubcd4windows and the often overlooked ubcd4dos. But I would like to say that, I have run into strange & mysterious situations where ubcd4windows failed to do what i needed, b/c there was an odd connection between the host and ubcdwin that linked up.
Anyway, to make a long story short, ubcd4win could not delete this trojan i found on a machine. So I had to boot up the system using a usb thumb drive loaded with software called I.N.S.E.R.T. (inside security rescue toolkit). It's a linux distro (cd or usb drive) that let's you rescue computers, even where ubcd4windows fails.
The distro's all have their purposes. For pc repair i keep: ubcdwin, ubcddos, i.n.s.e.r.t., trinix, helix, ping, backtrack, ophcrack, windiag, system rescue ppc, system rescue 32 bit, system rescue 64 bit, pcTools, knoppix-std, gparted, vista recovery, i think that's all. I wouldnt mention illegal stuff like hirens boot cd, etc., b/c it is best to keep your business as legitimate as possible. Also there's nothing you can't do with INSERT.
On a side note insert is designed to fit on a credit card sized cd. for wallet access for emergencies. ;)

you use backtrack in PC repair?

be careful what you do with some of those tools, as some states require you to be licensed to do some things.
