I have spare Socket AM2 motherboard. It was in my old system but then I replaced it with an identical one I had spare when it broke as I could not bare to loose my Vista licence I paid £80 for.

I had to replace it because I switched my PC on one morning and I just got a white screen saying Acer on it. I cannot get into the BIOS setup program or anything. I have tried resetting the BIOS, removing the CMOS battery etc. Now I transfered everything to the new motherboard so its not a RAM, HD, Video, Processor issue etc. It has to be the motherboard.

Is there anything I can do with this board or is it dead? I ask because I have an Acer case with a valid COA, I have this acer motherboard (I had two identical systems long story) so I could easily build a nice PC as I have all the spare parts if I could get this motherboard working.

The BIOS is chip is sadly soldered onto the board as far as I know.

There are some places that do component level repairs for motherboards and such. I am sure it is a skill you could learn and could be a fun project if you don't need it working anytime soon. However, I'm not sure what it would cost to have someone repair it for you.

There is no point really, and if I buy a motherboard with the same chipset Microsoft are usualy fine about letting yuou keep the product key.

if its working on the new board then obviously its the old board.. i would just do a windows reinstall on the new one and it should work since its the type type?
