If I'm not mistaken, in Canada one needs to charge taxes on the full amount and deduct the coupon value from the total to yield the net to the customer. That's different from just offering a discount rate. I'll have to look up the citations.

It's also good for reviewing how much discount you have given over set periods of time, or as a percentage of revenue.
