I have a customer well my brothers mate whos mac not sure on the make and model as of yet but the screen has cracked while watching a film.

I have told him that it was most likely from if he had let it fall but swears blind he didnt.
they spoke with Apple and they say that screen's are not under warranty.
He is thinking of taking further action with this with Apple as his brother is a lawyer.

What they want from me is a letter detailing how this could be a manufacturing fault. i am due to inspect the (laptop) on saturday.
I will not be able to take it apart or remove the front bezel so as not to void any warranty.

Basiclly im trying to find out what possible causes are there for this to happen.

He was watching a film and the screen just started cracking in front of his eys.

Possiblity: Minor crack on edge of screen behind bezel (so was not noticed before hand ) from manufacturing or transportation piont and the heat and vibrations from the cpu fan took its toll and caused it to finally crack.

Possiblity: Design flaw as the bezel could be very flimsy and clips could be too close to the edge of screen.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions i would appreciate it.
As this letter (If i do one) may be used in a court case to get the screen replaced. so i need to make sure MY ass is covered.

Cheers
Danny.

It's a design flaw with some Macbooks. Google it, there's talk of a class action in the states as Apple haven't officially recognised it. Tell him to bring it back to the Apple store and see what the service guys say. From what I hear he's going to have his hands full getting it sorted. Don't waste your time writing a letter. You don't have the professional clout to back it up i.e. you're don't hold a recognised professional qualification in Macs or in laptop design and manufacturing.

Thanks for the reply.

i appreciate that.
No letter will be written but i will say it to the laptop owner.

I see plenty of cracked screens in all models but never heard of one cracking on its own. You are wasting your time looking at it. They're going to want and AASP to look at it or else they won't even bother listening.

That is what i was thinking aswell.
Just needed clarification and it seams this forum has once again been a fruitful tree of advice.

Cheers Guys.

Screens donīt crack on their own. It is likely he had a hairline crack he didnīt notice that just got bigger very rapidly
