Using modified Windows XP Home OEM but it does not accept ACER product key??

The weirdest thing...

So I'm using a custom created (setupp.ini) modified cd of windows xp home. One I have been able to use on hps and dells so far with no serial number issues.

I've got an ACER Aspire here with the Windows XP Home edition sticker. The serial # is not accepted with this home cd and neither will the windows 9 in 1 cd (oem install of course, #6) accept it either.

Is there something special about Acer's install?? Are they retail perhaps?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Those links are good but this one is complete it was a lot of different setup numbers. I've had the same problem and non of the codes worked on those other sites. I made my work by following this site.

unfortunately I haven't been able to find any info that worked.

I tried those urls but even the product key is outside the realm of those specs.. Wtf did Acer do??

I'm going to try a dell oem cd then use keyfinder to change it I guess.

Never came across this before.

Again It's an Acer Aspire running Windows XP Home edition.

yes because the original hard drive is failing (grinding noises.. sometimes is seen sometimes not in the bios). I barely managed to copy the my documents folder off it. My clients machine got nailed in a storm.. power supply and motherboard fried.. and I suppose the failing hard drive was a completely seperate issue.

In any case, I sold her a new computer (new mobo, hd, processor etc..) and I simply wanted to use her license.

Also I noticed the i386 directory was not on the hd.

Besides that, since it's got different hardware now I'm thinking I'd get a BSOD if it had that partition and restored..... But it does not have that either.

My advice? Buy an OEM XP Home SP3 License for $89 and be done. If your hourly rate is $50/hr and you've already spent two hours or more trying to reuse her license key without success, you're already behind the eight-ball.

hehe... That is my hourly rate. You're 100% right. That said, I already pre-quoted and finalized the price so this wouldn't be feasible for me.

I tried everything to no avail getting that key to work.

By some miracle the drive stopped grinding long enough for me to ghost it and it actually worked! Just had to update the new motherboard drivers and it's rock solid. Thank G-D!!!!
