I'm planning on upgrading my computer within a month or two which will involve replacing my single-core processor with a dual-core and my slow RAM and adding a graphics card. I already have the processor and RAM picked out but I'm not too sure about the graphics card.

My motherboard already has an integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 200 and I'm wondering how it will work when I put in a graphics card. I'm also not sure how ATI and NVIDIA drivers will work together so I think I'll stick with an ATI chipset. According to the motherboard manual, it can do SurroundView but needs a Radeon X100 series card. Will it work with a X1000 series card? Are the X100 series any good at all or should I just stick with the X1000 series?

Another thing to consider is that I only have a 400 watt power supply and I'd rather not get a new one. Also, it doesn't have a 6-pin PCIe hookup but it does have some kind of flat 6-pin power connector that I guess were used for AGP cards.

So what should I get that's around $200 or less?

Are there any games that you are aiming to play once you've upgraded your system. I personally would not worry too much about the on-board video card, normally when I replace them, or add a second card to the system I buy a card that fits all my needs at the time, and just disable the on-board card.

Well, thanks for your help anyways but I've settled on getting the Radeon X1650XT. But since I'm not going to actually get it until the end of my semester in May, I'll see what ATI will offer for their low to mid-range DX10 cards.

Not sure where you are located but there are always many specials. The trick is to keep an eye on several big retailers and hopefully catch a deal.
