Hi Guys.

Just been at a clients house, who is getting a Outlook 2002 error when checking his mail.
He gets the following error codes:
0X800CCC90
0X80048002
0X800CCC03

And so on, Google seems to suggest its a Registry issue.
I have taken a look and cant seem to see anything wrong with it.
What tools do you have to diagnose the Reg?

Also he mentioned that he cannot install XP SP3, as after about 5mins, the machine just restarts. And then says the SP cannot be installed.

What do you think the steps forward would be?

Thanks again

Has it occurred to you that the two symptoms are related? If this machine came in to your professional shop for professional service, what professional steps and solutions would you take?

I just woke up and find my restraint remarkable this morning, especially since I'm only on my first cup of coffee. Ahhh... screw it. You may find other responders a bit more irascible, seeing as how you provided very few other details, apparently haven't done basic troubleshooting yet, and want us to pull a magic bullet out of our butt and tell you how to do your job.

Now that I've vented my spleen a bit, here's a few hints to get you started: chkdsk /f, HiJackThis, MalwareBytes (etc, etc), Dial-A-Fix, XP CD, Office XP CD.

Hey m8, a bit more information about the computer please, specs, plus is it xp home or professional? Outlook express or outlook office?

That said, the issue you suggested is usually a corrupt registry, Or worse case corrupt .pst or outlook application.

First steps would be to back up the .pst file and set a system restore point before hand.

Plenty of registry repair tools out there. registry mechanic is very good, CCleaner and glary utilities have good ones too.

If fixing the reg doesnt resolve your issue then i would look into repairing the outook application.

Corrupt registry is one of the factors that cause BSOD when installing a service pack like sp3. On another note it could well be a ram issue.

give the above a try, and lets us have more info

I have run chkdsk /f and it found no errors.
I have run CCleaner and no reg errors, well 3 minor ones that I sorted.

Re-installed Outlook 2002 (Office) still the same issue.

Will try Reg Mechanic.

And I know that the 2 issues are linked, which is why I brought both up.

Running XP Professional

Dont worry....
My gut feeling was it's an ISP error.

I asked the guy to call his ISP who said there was not issues, even tho this had been going for 5 days.

I then called the ISP today to check and give some technical background and they have issues...

So all sorted... Just the XP SP3 to install.

Good job on finding the ISP issue!

Microsoft shows Requirements for SP3 to be any prior level of Windows XP. What level is this machine on now?

No virus?
RAM Okay?
Hard Drive Okay?

Repair install, then SP3.

Check the size of their .pst file and make sure its not over 2gb
sometimes outlook 2002 throws a shitfit if it is
if so, archive some of their old mail

I had a PC which seemed fine the other day it was full of viruses but removed them. There was issues that automatic update would not work and also SP3 would refuse to install.

Malware did find a lot of crap but since scanned clean as did AVG/Spybot etc.

I then ran combofix which found and repaired rootkit activity. Since then I was able to enable automatic updates straight away and also install SP3. It might be worth running combofix but back things up first etc.

Thanks guys.

I'll take all you say onboard.
I have checked a few times for viruses and malware, with different programs, and his machine is squeaky clean...

He was running AVG and SpyBot himself already.

Hardware itself is fine, no Ram issues.

Will try combofix.
