I just recieved an older server motherboard, its a tiger mpx, dual processor board, well long story make short, i hade everything booted up correctly the first time, and then i went thru set-up in bios to check some things out (the usb slots come disabled on server boards hence the reason for checking it out), and then rebooted again but with windows xp pro in the cd drive, well it came to the point where it says that its checking the system settings and files, well that stayed there for a while, so i went ahead and rebooted again, and now nothing comes up, no activity from the hard drive except for the intial power on, and no monitor veiw, just blinks green ( the monitor is the biggest issue, i cant fix something i cant see) well if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated

Did you change anything in the BIOS? I would try reseting the CMOS (usually a jumper on the board, or you remove the battery with the computer unpluged.)

remove all USB devices and see what happens, especially usb memory sticks.

I think you burned your motherboard!

Probably a burnt out mobo. Try stripping it down to the basics such as video card/ram/cpu. If you have test parts, try the screen first, then power supply, then video card. Hopefully its just a dead power supply or video card.

I would go with Knuckles suggestion and strip the system to its bare minimum and see if you can breath some life into the system. As far as the monitor, plug it into another system and see if it works. My guess is also a mobo down.

If you have an agp or pci video card, it might be that thats causing the blinking. try reseating that. If its onboard, try reseating cmos, and/or ram. Leave the cmos out for like 5 minutes (sometimes the capacitors hold a good amount of charge). If that doesnt work your pretty much done. Also.. if it is an agp or pci vid card, then try another one and see if it has same issue, try a pci and an agp one. Have fun.

I am working on a friends computer. I was reformatting the hard drive today and reinstalling Win XP home. It was about 9 minutes from finishing when the power went off. I thought it was a black out until I checked the lights and they were working, so I put the computer back on and it started booting up but the monitor had no signal. It was bouncing that 'self test' across the screen. I didn't hear the post beep or anything after the DVD and CD-RW's booted up. I have taken every component out except for the CPU, fans and video adapter but the CMOS or Bios screen still wouldn't show.
I took the hard drive out and put it in another computer and it booted up fine and went straight to the desktop. I removed it and put it back in the other machine and it did the same thing as before. It's driving me round the twist!! Anyone got any ideas? The only thing I can think of is that the video card has blown when the power went out but then I can't see any signs of anything blown and no smell associated with it. The computer is clean.
The motherboard is a 875pe Infinity with a P4 processor and (as previously stated) Win XP Home. I am glad to answer any questions if you need further info.
Looking forward to some help with this, if you can. It's a costly bill to fix it at the local store!!
PS I forgot to mentioned that one time I took the video adapter out and put it in a again, I booted up and the screen came on fine but just that one time. It gave an error because it was on floppy boot but I changed the boot order but it wouldn't come on again after that.
Thanks in advance!

Could be a PSU issue.
If its faulty in any way (which could explain why the power suddenly went out) there may be insufficient power on the rails to power all the devices on..hence no post.

Hi there and thanks for the suggestion.
Yeah, after testing vigourously, each seperate component, I came to the same conclusion. Either that or the Vid card is fried but there was no signs or smells. When I tried the monitor on a card in a different machine it was fine. I have now put that hard drive into another computer and I am installing the components one at a time and booting up each time to see if one of them knocks out while I am in mid stream.
I also tried the vid card on a P3 machine and it still wouldn't work so it could be that card too.
I will keeping trying. Thanks :)
