The tool "WLANINFO" shows a listing of the available 802.11 wireless networks with detailed technical information and exact dates of the current wireless connection.

inssider although a pretty interface, requires .net to run and needs to be installed, so its not really a good choice for portability

True, but I usually use my laptop when checking wireless LAN's :)

Is this compatible with Vista?

I usually use Nirsoft WirelessNetView, (always portable)

WLANINFO for Windows XP

doesnt work on win7 it errors when enumerating the wifi devices
