Hi all,
I know there's got to be software that gets the junk out of the Windows that apps leave behind and are useless. For instance I use to use OpenOffice. I now use MS Office by which I uninstalled OpenOffice. Now I got something in my startup config that deals with O.O. What do you recomend I use to get rid of files like this.
Just to mention I am really leary of manually removing the left over files for I did that once many moons ago and totally screwed up the puter. Had to reformat and everything.
Thanks in advance.

PS.. I currently use a Norton Utilities act-a- like called Advance System Optomizer. That still didn't get rid of those files. Also if no one knows what to use then what about the wording for a search on it?

Try CCleaner.

http://www.ccleaner.com/

Registry cleaner
Advanced features to remove unused and old entries, including File Extensions, ActiveX Controls, ClassIDs, ProgIDs, Uninstallers, Shared DLLs, Fonts, Help Files, Application Paths, Icons, Invalid Shortcuts and more... also comes with a comprehensive backup feature. -- From CCleaner website.

That should get rid of old entries.

Remember to backup the registry before use, it should give u an option to do this in CCleaner.

Hope that helps:)

I use CCLeaner regularly but didn't realize there were those advanced features. I will have to check it out.

Ccleaner is really good and is on my short list of programs that make it on my system after a fresh install. You might also want to try 'Your uninstaller' http://www.ursoftware.com/. it not only uninstalls the program it also gets rid of any registry crap left behind.
