I have a HP PSC 1315 printer and when im installing it, the printer stops installing in the part that says "connect your device" and it stops on 5/8. I downloaded the drivers and software from hp.com because i lost the CD. I dont know if that may be the problem but i dont think so becuase i installed the same printer in my laptop.
Thanks...for the help,,,
Alex.

your not sposed to connect the printer till that step so have it unplugged till that step and then connect it on that step if it isn't recognizing it then you likely have an issue witht he port your using or the cable or the printer

As Blues said, keep it unplugged until it asks you to plug it in.
Does the installer freeze? or it says it cannot detect the hardware?
Also, when it tells you to plug it in, plug it in and then minimise the installer program. I have seen on some occasions (mainly on XP Corporate Edition) you get the standard windows "Found New Hardware" message saying things like "USB Printing Support".
If this is occuring let the standard XP "Found New Hardware" messages install what they need to by pressing next. You may need to do this a few times.
When it stops detecting new hardware, unplug the printer and plug it back in, the HP installer should detect it now.
