Bart's PE Builder helps you build a "BartPE" (Bart Preinstalled Environment) bootable Windows CD-Rom or DVD from the original Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 installation/setup CD, very suitable for PC maintenance tasks.
It will give you a complete Win32 environment with network support, a graphical user interface (800x600) and FAT/NTFS/CDFS filesystem support. Very handy for burn-in testing systems with no OS, rescuing files to a network share, virus scan and so on.
This will replace any Dos bootdisk in no time!

I apologize if I'm wrong, but these posts have an odor.
1. This is a group that mostly knows about these common apps.
2. This one points to a release that is OVER THREE YEARS OLD.
What's the point here?

Actually, bart's pe is old, the one to get is MOA, which can be found at sanbarrow.com. You build it yourself like bartpe, but use WS2003, you get a real explorer instead of that hokey thing bartpe comes with.
Also supports vmware player and vmware server, so you can boot from this livecd, and create a VM using the pc's physical disk.

well, it's kind of big....
My latest one is 505mb, I built it for something else, so it has no av tools like you would probably want.
It's not that hard to build - you will need a WS2003 i386 though.

Bart may be old, but it still works fine - I have had a bart disk in my toolbox for many years and it does the trick for data recovery from unbootable machines - there's an option to add additional programs to the build and I usually throw in a copy of total commander (http://ghisler.com/)
UBCD is good too - I have used it on occasion as well
Haven't heard of MOA, but I am on my way there now to have a look...

Bart PE used to be the standard in windows live cd creation. Today, in a world where windows XP is about to be replaced it really doesn't have it's place anymore, just as UBCD4WIN.
The main attraction, using such a bootable cd for repair purposes has been lost on Vista and later systems, mainly because of the fact that the filesystem of Vista reacts to the first version of WIN PE with data loss (yes, you will loose all your Vista restore points, for the least)
Todays requirements for a Windows Live CD are WIN RE version 2 or better
